About me

Why will I make your story different?

Because my story is different.

I've lived and worked in London, Sydney, Barcelona (twice) and Paris, so I've learned a lot about communicating and connecting with different audiences. (I'm also a really useful person to know if you need an international adapter plug).

Freelance writer and copy editor, Gemma Askham

I’ve written content about a lot of subjects. Some luxurious, some serious, and one piece while naked
(it was a nude restaurant and, no, I don’t think the concept took off – even if the clothes did). I started my career as a motoring journalist before moving to
Cosmopolitan's bridal magazine, a tabloid, and then rooting my americano on the features desk at Glamour. In 2014, I followed my bucket-list dream to live overseas and I've been avoiding the British weather ever since.

Words-wise, I’m a generalist. But “general” delivered with rigorous research and creativity to get under readers' skin. (In a good way, not a mosquito way).
I’ve interviewed Hollywood actresses, Olympic athletes, CEOs, neuroscientists and survivors of terror attacks.
My words have sold loo roll and multi-million-euro houses. While my signature dish would be a really good,
non-boring hotel review.

When I'm not at my keyboard or fuelling my IG algorithm of dog Reels, I'm interested in interiors
(my renovation project in Barcelona was featured in
Apartment Therapy), urban gardening, travel, Formula 1, football and ordering Deliveroos.
